“THOUSANDS OF TIRED, NERVE-SHAKEN, OVER-CIVILIZED PEOPLE ARE BEGINNING TO FIND OUT GOING TO THE MOUNTAINS IS GOING HOME; THAT WILDERNESS IS A NECESSITY”
~JOHN MUIR
This summer we were able to make a trip to visit family in Idaho, Montana, and Spokane WA. We had such a great time and it was so nice to see everyone and to get away from “the city”.
We stayed with family but if you are wanting to visit any of these places, luckily there are many hotels and affordable Airbnb options.
While traveling, as a kosher eater, the main issue I always have is literally packing the whole kitchen. My friend Jodi (creator of Love Adventure Mom) has some great tips for surviving traveling with kids, and one of the things she suggests is to pack light. So that’s one thing I REALLY need to work on. My idea for next time is to use Veestro. Which offers kosher food delivery to wherever you may be. All you have to do is kasher a microwave. And then just pick up plastic plates and utensils once you get to your destination.
For this trip, we used this grill which was easily portable and super easy to set up. Every house we stayed at already had a 20lb propane tank, so that was another thing that we didn’t need to bring.
Although we have a rather large car, I highly recommend this cargo carrier with this rain cover which allowed us to have more room to fit our large cooler and dog in the back. This pet safety barrier helped keep our dog in the back and not climbing all over the car (he weighs 110lbs, it’s very noticeable when he’s doing that). Perhaps next time we’ll use rover.com.
Our daughter did great in the car this time. But to be completely honest she watched a lot of movies. Whatever… it worked. Next time though I’ll probably use more of these ideas.
